Matterlurgy is a collaborative practice initiated by London-based artists Helena Hunter and Mark Peter Wright. Their Geofictions project examines the histories, politics and imaginaries of South Gare, an area on the southern side of the River Tees, which was once a key hub for industry. In this seminar, they outline the methods and findings of a workshop held on site in October 2016 and engage in informal discussions and creative exercises about nature, industry and waste. The session excavates South Gare’s intertwined historical industrial identity and emerging ecologies of obsolescence, considering themes of economy, territory, nature, and time.
The event is part of our Creative Community Programme, which aims to foster connections with current debates in the field and build local collaborative professional networks.
