What would happen if museums put relationships at the centre of their operations?
This three-day international event, organised in partnership with the L’internationale European museum network, will focus on the possibility of a museum in which the visitor is not a passive receiver of predefined content, but a member of a constituent body who provokes, informs and co-produces programmes.
A series of presentations, discussions and workshops, led and facilitated by constituents, theorists, artists and cultural workers, will address topics such as: becoming constituent; ownership and empowerment; responsibility; consent and networks of responsibility.
Participants include: artist and curator Barby Asante; artist Céline Condorelli; artist and researcher Burak Arıkan of Graph Commons; activist and researcher pantxo ramas (aka Francesco Salvini); curators, educators and constituents of the L’Internationale and of mima.
L’Internationale is a confederation of six modern and contemporary art institutions: Moderna galerija (MG+MSUM, Ljubljana, Slovenia); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS, Madrid, Spain); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA, Barcelona, Spain); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium); SALT (Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey); Van Abbemuseum (VAM, Eindhoven, the Netherlands).
