Weaving Project

6 July 2017 2:00 pm

Every Thursday 2.00pm – 4.00pm until December

Each week we host a drop-in session where we make woven mats from recycled materials. We use bespoke looms to learn simple weaving skills as a group. The hand-made woven mats will be used during family activities and by our museum users to make the shared spaces more comfortable and welcoming. This session is open to new-comers and expert in art and craft alike, and takes place in a relaxed and friendly environment.

This workshop draws on techniques and concepts found in pieces within the Middlesbrough Collection. It is part of a project with Glasgow-based artist Katie Schwab, whose work looks at the history of art and craft. Across 2017 she is consulting on our learning programme with our team and museum users and making a number of works for our museum’s spaces and the Middlesbrough Collection.
