Exhibition from Friday, 4 August to 3 September (excluding Mondays)

The Long Journey is a display of work by artist and designer Ausama al Khalil. It is organised as a memorial exhibition to raise awareness of the struggles faced by people seeking asylum.

Ausama, originally from Baghdad, Iraq, fled his country to escape persecution and torture after it became a warzone in early 2000. After seeking asylum in the UK in 2006, he settled in Middlesbrough. In 2016, he passed away.

His work speaks of displacement, stories of care and recovery from repression, and the role art plays in therapy and reconciliation. Al Khalil’s work was presented in our exhibition ‘If All Relations Were to Reach Equilibrium, Then This Building Would Dissolve’ in 2016.

Join us for a launch event where friends and associates of al Khalil will introduce the project. Funds are being raised in memory of Ausama to support vital medical work in Baghdad. Donations will go to the Baghdad Central Training Hospital for children to provide medical supplies and equipment.
