Teesside Together Weekend

Saturday, 29 and Sunday, 30 April 2017

Organisations, artists and experts gather together for this weekend to debate the key issues of 2017, how these issues impact our communities and what we can do, together, to tackle social injustices.

The weekend offers workshops, discussions and talks on how we can build solidarity and work collectively towards change.

Content includes; leading local voices exploring some of the issues we face and how they impact on people in Teesside and the wider world, including the impact of the poor experiences faced by those seeking sanctuary in the UK and the dangers of fear and xenophobia, screenings of Why I wear the hijab and I, Daniel Blake. Workshop content includes the following:


  • Colourism and Racism with All in Youth
  • #SayNo2Sanctions with Unite Community and Thrive
  • Impact of cuts on vulnerable people, with the Economic Justice Project and representatives from Tees Valley and Durham Neurological Alliance, My Sisters Place and Sisters Uncut Newcastle
  • Join the movement for refugee rights with Justice First
  • Building bridges and getting beyond stereotypes with Firm Foundations
  • Belief in action with the Islamic Diversity Centre
  • Tour of exhibitions with mima team member
  • Work with artist activist Emily Hesse to make your own political slogan
  • Body Mapping with Red Handed
  • Working with the media to get your message out, with Economic Justice Project
  • Tour of exhibitions with mima team member
  • Community organising skills, with Acorn
  • How to be a Trans Ally, with Trans Awareness
