Owen Griffiths

9 March 2017 5:00 pm - 9 March 2017 7:00 pm

Wales-based artist Owen Griffiths is currently developing the Trebanog Project as part of the cultural regeneration initiative ‘It’s Art but It’s Not’. The Trebanog Project is a space for social learning taking place in a derelict school in the post-industrial Rhondda Valley. Its curriculum and activities explore food production through engagement around land, play, ownership, and collaboration, and consider the vernacular as a premise for establishing a long-term relationship with the community.

In this session he details the mindset and initiatives of the Trebanog Project, including themes of civic design, co-authorship, up-skilling and cultural knowledge, and discusses his vision for making as a political act.

Our free Research and Development Workshops, part of our Creative Community series of events, aim to foster connections with current debates in the field and build local collaborative professional networks.

British and international artists, curators and practitioners share and discuss ways in which creativity can address social issues through an examination of contemporary projects or historical cases of socially engaged art and curatorial practice.
