Our weekly Community Day involves various creative and discursive activities, complemented by a free communal lunch at 1pm. Held on Thursdays, the day is open to all and sessions include:
Mini mima – 10.00am – 11.30am (term-time only), £3.50 per child. Interactive early years workshops for under-fives that respond to our current projects with experimental making.
Cloth Club – 10.30am – 12.30pm, this workshop is a chance to learn textile skills within a relaxed group environment. This season we are working on silk painting and making items to wear, using the Middlesbrough Collection for inspiration.
Cultural Conversations – 11.00am – 1.00pm, these sessions are for people whose first language is not English. They are an opportunity to improve speaking, listening, reading and writing skills using the Middlesbrough Collection and our exhibitions for inspiration.
Community Day Lunch – 1.00pm – 2.00pm, our free weekly lunch offers an opportunity to meet new people and share ideas over a healthy meal. Available on a first come, first-served basis. Donations accepted.
Creative Age – 1.00pm – 3.00pm, Creative Age is a series of dementia-friendly activities for adults. We work with involved creativity through story making, touch and doing. Organised with Equal Arts.
Community Garden – 2.00pm – 4.00pm, an opportunity to learn about international cultures, horticulture and health in an active and creative session that is good for mental and physical wellbeing. Developed with Investing in People and Culture and Middlesbrough Environment City.
New Boosbeck Industries – 2.00pm – 4.00pm, New Boosbeck Industries is a project through which people design and build furniture with artist Adam Clark. Come along to learn and share skills.
Drawing Class – 5.45pm – 6.45pm (£3.50), this session is for adults to improve skills in a variety of materials within a friendly atmosphere.
Wonder Whys – 6.00 – 7.00pm (term time only), the Wonder Whys is our young people’s group. They meet to learn, make and question the world we live in.
Cinema Paradiso – 5.30 – 7.30pm, on the fourth Thursday of the month, 23 February, 23 March, 27 April and 25 May 2017, we present international, art house and artists’ films. This season focuses on migration and identity politics. Screenings are followed by food and discussions. Organised with Investing in People.
